I started off working in customer service, where I worked for the first association of customer service ( As the only employee) experts pushing for a focus on delivering great experiences to customers and not revenue.
From a foundation perspective, it allowed me to see the value of building for the customer and allowing revenue to follow great solutions and experiences. I then moved to my first tech startup that provided a payroll and HR software company.
I was the HR and Operations team and this was my first taste of SQL databases and simple yet useable software, at the time nearly 45% of the NGOs in Kenya used this software. Later on, moving to a high-growth tech startup as commercial and business operations lead where I was charged to provide structure and implement a process for the sales and business operations teams.
I also structured the commercial/ sales department by identifying the ideal process for maximum outcomes including implementing sales tools and driving conversion. In the same company, I moved to product management where I was managing a team of 22 people ranging from engineering, client success, product support, and sales teams among others. Running not as a product team, but as a small business unit. I, at the time handled 95% of business revenues ( <$ 9m in 2018).
At the same time, as the PM for the flagship product, I was key part of facilitating the launch of the product in 3 new countries in 2018 while ensuring product growth in the 6 existing markets. Then on to another high growth tech startup successfully managing a team of 10 engineers to a roadmap completion rate of over 95% quarter on quarter. Designing building and deploying a new product; SendyGo which hit $4000 a week GMV within 3 months of launch.
Finally, in my current role, in a tech accelerator where we invest in early stage tech startups in Africa, I am tasked with identifying startups to invest in, support them for scale from a skills gap perspective as well as facilitating the raise of follow on funding. I like to think of myself as THE EXECUTER, I take the founders vision and successfully break it into simple and executable tasks.
